Pioneering the Future of Sustainable Plant Protection

About Us

TreeBud was created to eliminate the plastic waste left behind by traditional tree guards. Across the UK, polypropylene guards are breaking down into microplastics, and even “compostable” guards still need to be collected and processed, meaning they often end up as waste.

We’re developing a next-generation, plant-based guard that protects young trees for the crucial establishment years, then fully biodegrades in the soil without retrieval, processing, or microplastic residue.

Strong when needed.
Gone when it’s not.
A cleaner way to protect plants.

Material

Traditional: Petrochemical plastics
Compostable: PLA/PBAT blends
TreeBud: Plant-based, fully biodegradable composite

Environmental Impact

Traditional: Long-term microplastic pollution
Compostable: Only sustainable if correctly processed
TreeBud: Non-toxic, soil-safe, rewilding-ready

Microplastics

Traditional: Leaves fragments in soil
Compostable: Still breaks into particles if left in the field
TreeBud: Zero microplastics, fully soil-biodegradable

End-of-Life

Traditional: Must be removed and disposed
Compostable: Must be collected and industrially processed.
TreeBud: No retrieval, no processing naturally returns to the soil.

Long-Term Cost

Traditional: High (retrieval + waste costs)
Compostable: Medium (collection required)
TreeBud: £0 post-installation

The Simple Truth

TreeBud protects. Then disappears.
No waste. No plastic legacy.
